Florida is getting its first snow park? Yep.

As crazy as this might sound, it’s looking like the first snow park in Florida is going to become a reality The Pasco County Board of County Commissioners approved a permit for a snow amusement park to be built in a rural part of Dade City, about 40 miles north of downtown Tampa.

The snow-themed park would open only during the “winter” for snow tubing and other snowy fun like snowman building, snowball fights, and making snow angels. All things that kids who grow up in Florida are sadly missing out on.

The park will operate at the same location as TreeHoppers Aerial Adventure Park and the seasonal Halloween attraction Scream-a-Geddon.

Currently, the tentative plan is for a 300 foot long by 100 to 200 foot wide set of snow tubing runs, and an area for playing in the snow.  All the snow will be man-made (obviously) and will only operate in the winter months when the weather is below 80 degrees.  It’ll be really interesting to see how well that snow holds up to our sunny Florida winters and if Florida’s first snow park becomes Florida’s first slush park instead. Either way, we’ll be sure to check this place out and report back once it opens, hopefully in early 2020.

Another warmish weather snow park, Snow Mountain, operates near Atlanta at Stone Mountain Georgia and is expected to operate similarly to that park.
